Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is the best decking material for the South Florida climate?

For Miami’s unique climate—which features intense sun, high humidity, and salt air—we highly recommend Ipe (Brazilian Walnut). Ipe is widely considered the best choice because of its extreme density and natural resistance to rot, termites, mold, and decay. If you are looking for alternatives, Cumaru and Garapa are also excellent tropical hardwoods that perform exceptionally well in coastal environments compared to softwoods like pressure-treated pine.

  • Do you deliver lumber to areas outside of Miami?

Yes. While our main warehouse is in Miami, Lumber Plus serves the entire country.

  • Can I visit your Miami showroom to see the wood in person?

Absolutely. We encourage homeowners, architects, and contractors to visit our Miami showroom and warehouse. You can see the difference between Ipe, Cumaru, Garapa, and our composite decking options in person. We are open to the public Monday through Saturday and offer immediate pickup for in-stock materials.

  • What is the difference between Ipe and Cumaru wood?

Both are premium Brazilian hardwoods known for durability, but there are slight differences. Ipe is the darkest, densest, and most stable option, often called "Ironwood." Cumaru (Brazilian Teak) is very similar in density but typically has more color variation, ranging from golden tan to reddish-brown, and is generally more affordable than Ipe. Both are resistant to insects.

  • Do you sell composite decking brands like Trex or TimberTech in Miami?

Yes, we are a fully stocked dealer for leading composite brands including Trex, TimberTech, Fiberon, and Norx. Composite is a great choice if you want a low-maintenance deck that requires no sanding, oiling, or staining.

  • Do you offer custom milling or cutting services?

Yes. Our Miami facility is equipped for custom millwork. Whether you need custom cladding profiles, grooved decking for hidden fasteners, or specific dimensional lumber cuts, our team can process your order to your exact specifications before delivery.
