Hardwood Decking
WHY IS HARDWOOD A BETTER ALTERNATIVE THAN SOFTWOOD?
From strength and durability to natural resistance to fire and other hazards, hardwood provides a variety of benefits for different applications that are not suitable for softwood. Hardwood is known for its resilient and adaptable nature, resulting in a product that's perfect for projects that require maximum durability. Not to mention the generally darker hue hardwood carries is always easy on the eyes.
IS HARDWOOD MORE EXPENSIVE THAN PINE AND OTHER TYPES OF SOFTWOODS?
Not in the long run. Hardwoods usually have higher starting prices than other species such as Pine or any kind of softwood. However, because they tend to last much longer than other wood, they end up being cheaper in the long run. Not to mention the sleek and captivating look only hardwood can provide.
HOW LONG DOES A HARDWOOD DECK LAST?
Properly maintaining your hardwood deck is the key to making it last for many, many years. Harder species, like Ipe, are known to last up to 75 years, while Garapa will last for about 25-30 years. So with proper maintenance, a Hardwood decking is made to outlast most other decking alternatives.
Composite Decking
WHAT MAKES COMPOSITE DECKING A GOOD ALTERNATIVE TO SOFTWOOD?
While there are countless reasons to choose composite decking, the effortless maintenance, and the incredible durability are among the top. Composite is designed to last approximately 20-30 years meanwhile treated softwood has a lifespan less than half that of composite’s. Not to mention the required maintenance for pressure-treated wood is estimated at over US$ 500 per year.
ARE COMPOSITE DECKS EXPENSIVE?
Not in the long run. Even though they cost more upfront, compared to pine wood, they are much easier to deal with and require far less maintenance over the years. You can expect considerable long-term savings on materials and labor when you choose composite solutions.
